About Chelsea
My first memory of flowers is as a child, growing lilac with my mother in the New Hampshire countryside. It's been sort of an obsession ever since. As I teenager, I spent all my time in my herb garden, making bouquets late into the night. I got my start professionally working at a large hotel florist and garden, I took classes from London designers, including Jane Packer, apprenticed at flower farms in the English countryside, and worked for a number of florists on the West Coast of the USA (not exactly in that order!). At 23, I opened my own flower shop. It's been almost 20 years of working with flowers and now I write about flower arranging, style flowers for photo shoots, and teach floral design classes to students around the world.
I like to mix English country style (perhaps picked up from my Yorkshire born granny and her sweet pea growing father) with modern simplicity. I have a love for unfussy, casual bouquets that look like they were just plucked from a meadow. Currently I love growing my own flowers and foraging for materials as often as possible.
I am based in Lisbon, Portugal by way of Portland, OR. I write a lifestyle blog called Frolic! where you can see more of my work and find flower tutorials and other design musings.
My first flower arranging book, Field, Flower, Vase will publish Spring 2021 with Abrams Publishing.
